Advocacy Alerts


When concerns impacting our aging population arise which call for immediate attention, Council on Aging issues an Advocacy Alert.  These Advocacy Alerts provide the public with an overview of the issue, details about the current situation, and what to do and whom to contact to create a favorable outcome.

  • Utility Bill Discount Program
    Some older adults may need assistance with utility bills.
  • NC Senate Bill to Raise the Income Eligibility Limit of the Homestead Exclusion
    Many older adults living in Charlotte-Mecklenburg and other prosperous urban areas have experienced a dramatic increase in the assessed property tax value of their home. North Carolina allows low-income homestead exclusions for qualifying individuals.
  • Emergency Funding Needed for Older Americans
    The National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (n4a) is advocating for much-needed emergency funding for Older Americans Act programs, which provide home and community-based services for older adults and caregivers, to be included as part of the second economic stimulus package. Your advocacy is critical in the shared success! Please partner with Council on Aging and advocate for YOUR senior-friendly future today!
